How to Connect Custom Domain to Blogger using Cloudflare

Having a custom domain for your blog can give it a more professional and personalized touch. If you're using Blogger as your blogging platform, you might be wondering how to connect your custom domain to your blog. Luckily, with the help of Cloudflare, the process is straightforward and relatively simple. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to connect a custom domain to Blogger using Cloudflare.

Before we begin, there are a few things you'll need
Instructions

1. A registered domain: Ensure you have a custom domain registered with a domain registrar like GoDaddy, Namecheap.

2. A Blogger account: If you don't have a Blogger account yet, sign up for one on the Blogger website.

3. A Cloudflare account: If you don't have a Cloudflare account, visit their website and sign up for a free account.

Once you have these essentials in place, follow the steps below:

Add your domain to Cloudflare
  • Log in to your Cloudflare account.
  • Click on the "Add a Site" button and enter your domain name.
  • Cloudflare will scan the existing DNS records for your domain. Confirm that all important records are listed correctly before proceeding.
Set up your DNS records
  • After adding your domain, Cloudflare will provide you with the nameservers you need to update with your domain registrar.
  • Log in to your domain registrar's website (e.g.,Hostinger, BlueHost) and navigate to the DNS settings.
  • Update the existing nameservers with the ones provided by Cloudflare and save the changes.
Set up SSL/TLS encryption in Cloudflare
  • In your Cloudflare dashboard, click on the "SSL/TLS" tab.
  • Choose the encryption mode you prefer. We recommend selecting the "Flexible" option, especially if you don't have an SSL certificate for your domain.
  • Wait a few minutes for the changes to take effect. Cloudflare will provide you with a Universal SSL status once the encryption is active.
Configure the Blogger settings
  • Log in to your Blogger account and go to the "Settings" tab of your blog.
  • Under "Publishing," click on the "+ Setup a 3rd party URL for your blog" link.
  • Enter your custom domain, including the "www" prefix, and click on the "Save" button. You'll see an error message, but don't worry – we'll fix that in the next step.
Create CNAME records in Cloudflare
  • Go back to your Cloudflare dashboard and navigate to the "DNS" tab.
  • Within the DNS settings, create a CNAME record with the subdomain "www" pointing to your Blogger domain (e.g., ghs.google.com).
  • Save the record and wait for a few minutes for the changes to propagate.
Verify your domain ownership
  • Return to your Blogger settings and enter your custom domain (including the "www" prefix) again.
  • This time, click on the "Save" button. Blogger will generate two CNAME records.
  • Take note of these records and their destination, as you will need them for the final step.
Add the Blogger CNAME records to Cloudflare
  • Go back to your Cloudflare dashboard and navigate to the "DNS" tab.
  • Create two new CNAME records with the details provided by Blogger.
  • Save the records and wait for a few minutes for the changes to propagate.
